Always a Waiting Market, Sharjah Art Biennial 2023 with Jasbir Puar
“Always A Waiting Market” is a surrealist montage about humanitarian aid foods and their leakage into besieged and occupied territories. The irony of the West feeding those it simultaneously bombs is juxtaposed here through a moving image experiment using archival videos from the American horror film The Birds and found footage from American canned food commercials— Chicken of the Sea tuna fish and the nutrition drink Sego— used to feed Palestinian refugees in 1967.
Objects are simultaneously part of the infrastructure of the siege even as they induce lines of flight from besiegement.
